Four years ago, chill-beat boss Medasin was anything but laid back and in control. He was struggling with his mental health, addicted to drugs, running with an aimless crowd, digging a hole and throwing his ambitions into the hazy abyss. His parents, his teachers, and his well-intentioned friends couldn't tell him anything he'd bother to hear. Only Irene had the magic words that could make his musical soul stop and listen.
Irene was his intensive outpatient program counselor at Access Counseling Group, her rehab facility in Plano, Texas. For some reason, Irene was able to convince the would-be producer that his life was worth more than escapism. Irene helped him see a future, one where he could focus his energies into his creative passions and make something beautiful. Today, he shares a 9-track album, a soothingly subtle exploration of feelings bigger than words allow. It's beautiful, and it's dedicated to her, Irene. -Billboard Magazine
I met Irene back in my teenager years then reconnected recently, after my oldest child completed suicide. I will never be fully healed after losing my son, but Irene has helped me to get through a time when my body, both physically and mentally felt as if I couldn’t always make it to the next second. During all this, Irene was able to tap into my strengths and lead me towards reaching goals I have only dreamed were possible. I am now an advocate for families who have lost someone due to suicide and for the the kids out there who need preven - tion from this epidemic. I have founded a nonprofit #socksforsuicideprevention, and Irene has guided me through writing my first book, which should be published in 2020. Without her support, it is likely I would still be sitting in bed all day everyday. With Irene’s talent for knowing when to push me further in my “recovery” and when to let me grieve privately, I have become a new, better person. Thanks, Irene, for being you with zero apologies and lots of love. -Shana T., Author
Irene and her staff saw our entire family because an addicts problem is never just their own. I can honestly say were it not for Access Counseling, we would not have made it. There were so many issues to deal with- we were heartbroken and devastated , his siblings were furious and he didn’t know how to navigate the world without drugs.
Irene is intuitive, compassionate and tough and we needed all three of those things. She addressed each family member, based on their needs and she quickly won the confidence of our son. There is much he still needs to learn, but he is clean and he is stable and for this we give credit and eternal gratitude to Irene and her incredible staff. L.S. -Parent
